Mallett Captures Hard Charger Award During USCS Series Event in Florida

Inside Line Promotions – CLEWISTON, Fla. (Feb. 7, 2023) – Jordon Mallett pocketed his first two top 10s of the season during his second week of a kickoff to the 2023 campaign in ‘The Sunshine State.’

Mallett advanced from the seventh row to finish sixth and ninth, respectively, last weekend at Hendry County Motorsports Park during a USCS Series doubleheader.

“We’re on about a five-week stint in Florida to start the year to get everything shook down,” he said. “The weather was a lot better and we could get some racing going so hopefully we’ll be ahead of the curve when we get back home.

“I feel real good about it. I’m really liking the car we brought down this year. It’s starting to get more balanced where I like. That takes time. You can take for granted the time it takes to get a car like you want it. We’re making leaps and bounds where I want the car.”

Mallett endured a pair of frustrating nights at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville during the last weekend of January before he made the trek to Hendry County Motorsports Park.

“We went into it with a new attitude after Volusia, which was just a rough go,” he said. “We went into Hendry with a different attitude and had a really good race car both nights. The worst problem there is it’s a very unique place. Results can be very dependent on how good your pill draw is. Your heat race starting position is critical and both nights we drew in the third row. That’s hard to overcome because the track is single file and narrow.”

Mallett advanced from sixth to fifth place in a heat race on Friday. That lined him up on the outside of the seventh row in the A Main.

“If anything it gave me a moment to sit back and focus on what my race car was wanting me to do,” he said. “When you start that far back you’re in a no-lose situation to try some stuff and see what the car wants. We hit it on the head. It was hard to pass in the feature, but we clawed our way forward. I was really trying to get us into the top five, but it didn’t quite work out. When you’re able to go through the field like that you think if we could have started up front we really could have had something.”

Mallett’s run from 14th to sixth earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

The weekend concluded on Saturday with a fifth-place result in a heat race followed by a charge from 13th to ninth in the main event.

“We clawed our way into the top 10 again,” he said. “It was one of those weekends where we were able to try stuff and move forward, but the pill draw really hurt us. We’ll take the positive from the weekend and look to keep improving.”

Next up for the team is a USCS Series doubleheader at Southern Raceway in Milton, Fla., this Friday and Saturday.
