Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (June 3, 2014) – Derek Hagar spent a lot of time on the road last weekend without anything to show for it.
After winning the first three USCS Speedweek races, Hagar and his team hauled to Alabama to start the second half of the Speedweek at Talladega Short Track last Thursday before the event was cancelled because of weather.
“We were 20 miles from the track at Talladega when it rained out,” he said. “We drove to Columbus, Miss., and the weather was looking good for Friday. We got the car unloaded and about 10 minutes later the bottom fell out. It rained pretty hard for about 15 minutes and they ended up calling it. We drove home Friday after the rain.”
Friday’s race at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., and Saturday’s at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., rained out to make the weekend a complete wash. The event at Riverside International Speedway will potentially be rescheduled, which postponed Hagar, who holds a 20-point lead, from being crowned the Speedweek champion.
This weekend he is slated to compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, Tenn., on Friday and at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Saturday.
Hagar’s last appearance with the premier 360ci sprint car tour yielded his first career ASCS National Tour win during the Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass at Riverside International Speedway on May 3.
“We’ve shown our strength and we got that win at Riverside,” he said. “I know I can run with them and I just treat it like another race. I think that’s the best way to look at it; just race the race track and not the drivers.”
Hagar also has two feature victories at I-30 Speedway this season.
