Fourth of July weekend brought the return of JBMotorsports driver Jim Perricone to the racing events by the USCS Sprint series in Arkansas. Diamond Park Speedway on Friday was the first night back in the J&J chassis 10P since April. It would turn out to be a night of gremlins for crew chief Bob Thompson. Heat 1 Jim started on the pole and took the lead for a while before a external coil on the magneto came off the dash and the motor quit on Jim. Jim would start the A Main in the rear of the field and with the electronics fixed raced with the pack before a cylinder let go. With only racing on 7 cylinders Jim brought the car home a decent 16th place and completed all 30 laps in the feature getting some good track time.
Night 2 brought the team for a first time visit to I-30 Speedway. Again Jim would start on the pole of the heat race and tried to hold the regulars off from passing. A miss in the set-up and realizing once again we were only on 7 cylinders had Jim finishing 7th. Jim would start B Main #1 and with the motor now fixed and the help of Tim Crawley on set-up the team marched forward but with a one groove race track would not qualify for the A main.
Overall a fun and exciting weekend to get back in the car and we learned a lot for next time. In the end we have the car and motor issues corrected and should be a factor in our next race.
