Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Oct. 25, 2016) – Derek Hagar is using his down time to get ready for two big races that will finish off his 2016 season.
While his next race will be Nov. 3-5 during the 29th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., Hagar is focused on the USCS Mid South championship.
Hagar currently leads the USCS Mid South championship standings by 85 points over Terry Gray. Hagar also leads the series in wins with seven trips to Victory Lane.
“We’re feeling pretty confident,” he said. “We’ve got a rather comfortable lead.”
Hagar is a familiar champion in the USCS series with two titles on his racing résumé.
“A couple years ago we won the Southern and the National points for the USCS,” he said. “So it would be nice to be able to pull off the Mid South portion of it and have all three championships.”
Winning this championship will also bring good momentum for next season.
“It’ll be good for us going into the offseason and to get ready for next year, for whatever we plan on doing,” he said. “It’s hard to say with us and what our schedule is going to look like. We kind of play it by ear.”
Following the Short Track Nationals Hagar will look to wrap up the USCS Mid South championship on Nov. 11-12 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.
“It would just feel pretty good to say that we’ve won all three championships with the USCS,” he said.
