Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (May 23, 2017) – Derek Hagar is hoping Mother Nature plays nice during the next two weeks as he embarks upon the USCS Speedweek, which features seven races at seven tracks in nine days.
“Everything got rained out again last week so that means I’ve only got to race the sprint car one weekend in the last five,” he said. “I’m just ready to get back in a car. I’m ready to get these seven races going and hopefully click off about seven wins.”
The USCS Speedweek begins this Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., before shifting to Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., on Saturday. Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Miss., hosts a race on Sunday with Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, Tenn., showcasing the midpoint of the Speedweek on Monday.
The second half of Speedweek includes shows on June 1 at Talledega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.; on June 2 at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss.; and on June 3 at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.
Hagar has had a great track record during the USCS Speedweek. Last year he claimed his second Speedweek title in three seasons after posting a podium finish during each Speedweek race.
“We’ve had a good car, good team and good equipment,” he said. “We have to keep doing what we’re doing. We have to put ourselves in the redraw and make 30 laps consistently.”
It also doesn’t hurt that Hagar has won at each of the seven tracks hosting a Speedweek race.
“It makes us feel good,” he said. “We have to be consistent. Winning is nice, but there is a points deal for Speedweek that pays a bit so we need to be consistent each time out.”
