Hagar Hangs on for Fourth-Place Result During USCS Speedweek Race at Talladega

Inside Line Promotions – EASTABOGA, Ala. (June 6, 2017) – Derek Hagar earned his 11th top five of the season last Thursday at Talladega Short Track during a USCS Series Speedweek event.

“Everything was going pretty smooth,” he said. “We just didn’t stay on top of our game. We had a good car all night, but we were too conservative for the A Main.”

Hagar won the dash from the pole before he advanced from third to claim a heat race victory. The feature inversion lined him up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“We missed the setup and didn’t tighten the car up near enough,” he said. “We anticipated some rubber and it didn’t lay down. We backed up to fifth or sixth and worked back up to fourth. We didn’t have the drive in it. The first couple of laps I could tell we were out to lunch. As the race went on people started falling off and we got better. We battled for second with Sammy (Swindell) and (Tim) Crawley, but couldn’t get around them.”

Speedweek races on Friday at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., rained out.

Hagar will be off this weekend before resuming competition on June 17 at Riverside International Speedway for the Hooker Hood Classic.
