Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Nov. 21, 2017) – Marshall Skinner scored a pair of USCS Speedweek victories to highlight his 2017 campaign.
“I felt like I had a pretty decent year,” he said. “We had a couple of wins and a lot of top fives. We were a contender wherever we showed up.”
Skinner was victorious on May 26 at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., during the opening round of the USCS Speedweek.
“Me and Derek (Hagar) were battling for the lead in traffic,” he said. “We were side by side and lapped cars crashed in front of us at Hattiesburg. I made it through there and Derek didn’t so we had luck on our side.”
Six days later Skinner stood in Victory Lane at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala.
“At Talladega I passed Derek on the first lap and followed Tim (Crawley) for a while,” he said. “I think his left rear tire was going down and on a restart he bobbled. I drove under him and never saw anyone again. That was pretty cool because my truck broke down in Alabama about two hours from the track. My uncle drove to me and brought me his toterhome. We got to the track late and missed hot laps. That was pretty cool to overcome that and win.”
Skinner finished the season with 16 top fives and 23 top 10s with a few more near misses of earning wins.
“There were a lot of races I should have won, but the cards didn’t play in my favor,” he said. “However, any time I can roll the race car in the box and do decent at the pay window it’s a successful night.”
Additionally, Skinner placed in the top five in the championship standings for the USCS Mid-South Region and at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., and in the top 10 in the ASCS Mid-South Region and at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., despite missing races with both series and at both tracks.
“I want to thank my wife, Kristy, and all of our sponsors for their continued support,” he said. “We appreciate everyone who helps out our team. We really enjoy racing and are looking forward to what 2018 entails.”
