Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Feb. 5, 2018) – Derek Hagar will kick off his sprint car season this weekend in Florida.

Hagar is piloting a race car for Witherspoon Racing on Friday and Saturday at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., with the USCS Series.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to start the season in Florida and return to Witherspoon Racing,” he said. “I think we really improved during our short time together last year so I’m looking forward to see how we run this year.”

Hagar earned a top-five finish during a trio of races driving for Witherspoon Racing last season while competing with approximately 60 other drivers at the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s event at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa.

“To get a top five out of about 60 drivers was great for everyone,” Hagar said. “We barely missed making the Saturday finale and I think we pinpointed a couple of areas to improve on so I can’t wait to get to Bubba Raceway Park this week to compete.”

Hagar maneuvered from ninth to a sixth-place result during his lone visit to the track in February 2015.

“It’s certainly a unique track,” he said. “It was pretty tricky. You had to make smart decisions and if you messed up or a car in front of you did you’d lose a lot of ground in a hurry. I’m glad we have some notes from our debut there to help us going into this weekend.”

Hagar is no stranger to success during USCS Series events. He recorded six wins with the series last year, nine in 2016 and seven in 2015.
