Inside Line Promotions – GIBSONTON, Fla. (Feb. 20, 2018) – Harli White is grateful she ventured to Florida last weekend to tackle the Ronald Laney Memorial King of the 360s.
“Overall I was a bit rusty,” she said. “The first race back you always hope for the best, but it shows getting a couple of races under your belt before you have to race for points is a good idea. It helps to be out there racing before points racing starts.”
White will begin her second season on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour next month and she wants to find a rhythm before going points racing. The first opportunity to knock the rust off came last weekend at East Bay Raceway Park, where the action kicked off Thursday with White placing fifth in a heat race before a runner-up result in a B Main garnered a transfer into the main event. She capped the night by advancing from 20th to 16th in the A Main.
“The track was so locked down,” she said. “We just never got out and got going. You were always in a battle with other cars. We didn’t move forward as much as we wanted, but it was good to get a bunch of laps in.”
The team returned to the oval on Friday, when White ended sixth in a heat race and fifth in a B Main to miss a transfer into the main event by only one position.
“We struggled with that car on Thursday and Friday,” she said. “It was the one we flipped at the 360 Knoxville Nationals last year. We were in the transfer spot in the B Main for a long time trying to hold on, but I just couldn’t hold on long enough.”
The team pulled a back-up car out for Saturday’s finale.
“I noticed a big difference the way the car reacted to the race track,” she said.
White maneuvered from sixth to fourth place in a heat race to garner a lock-in position into the 40-lap A Main. She started 16th, but an early crash ended the night with a 22nd-place finish.
“We definitely learned some stuff all weekend that we could use in races to come,” she said. “Track conditions were more tricky this year so we learned as the weekend went on. It’d go from one dramatic to the other pretty quick. You had to keep on top of it for sure.”
White is slated to make her debut at Southern Raceway in Milton, Fla., with the USCS Series this Friday and Saturday.
