Inside Line Promotions – CHATHAM, La. (March 12, 2019) – Jamie Ball and the White Lightning Motorsports team made the most out of a trip to Chatham Speedway last weekend for a two-day USCS Series event, which began with a top-five finish on Friday during the team’s season opener.
“It was great to get a night under our belt and shake the rust off,” Ball said. “We had a good night overall to start the year being able to get our first top five of the season.”
Ball finished where he started – second – in a heat race to begin the action. He then took the green flag from the inside of the fourth row for the feature. Ball picked up a couple of positions to finish fifth.
“We were running in fourth throughout the first 23 laps of the race right behind (Morgan) Turpen, (Tony) Stewart and (Mark) Smith,” he said. “With a couple of laps to go, I bicycled the car big time and nearly got upside down and lost one spot to Terry Gray. Overall it was great effort to kick off the 2019 season.”
On Saturday, Ball began the night on a high note by scoring his first USCS Series heat race win after starting on the pole. He also ended sixth in the dash.
“They had forecasted major rain all day in Chatham so we got lucky and it actually barely rained at all,” he said. “The track was super hard packed and slick as they were prepared for a rain storm. It was a totally different track surface from the previous night, but our heat race went well and we got our first heat race win of the season.”
That lined him up on the inside of the third row for Saturday night’s feature. Although he lost ground in the feature, Ball was able to log a top-10 finish to round out the weekend.
“The A Main proved to be difficult for me as my biggest struggle is short tracks and slick short tracks,” Ball said. “Overall, Chatham Speedway was a fun little joint. The owner, staff and fans were great and excited to see sprint cars. The competitive level of the front runners was a good tune up for us before we embark on our second Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour season. We are looking forward to starting with ASCS this weekend at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. It will be nice to get on a big track and see how we can go.”
The ASCS National Tour opener is this Friday and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, during the 46th annual ASCS Spring Nationals.
