Inside Line Promotions – CHATHAM, La. (March 12, 2019) – Channin Tankersley posted a runner-up result last weekend during the opening event of the season for Old School Racing.
The team ventured to Louisiana for a two-day USCS Series event at Chatham Speedway, where Tankersley finished third in a heat race to kick off Friday’s action. That lined him up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.
“I got up to fifth in the first two laps,” he said. “I was running the bottom and most people were up top. Then someone hit me so hard it flipped my visor open.”
Tankersley was taken out early in the race. However, he rebounded by rallying from the back of the pack to score a sixth-place finish.
“Any time you have to go to the back and can pass cars and make your way back into the top 10 it’s a good result,” he said. “We had a good car and could run the top or the bottom. It made it a lot easier that we were able to run all over the place. Most people were pretty dedicated to the top.”
That momentum continued on Saturday when he placed fifth in the dash and third in a heat race before starting the main event on the outside of the fourth row.
“We made some changes to the car and it was really drivable,” he said. “The track was technical and really tricky. We were primarily rolling the bottom. There were a bunch of people rolling the middle and higher lanes. Right off the get-go we passed two or three cars and just rode there most of the race. We had a caution with about 12 laps to go. I don’t know if everyone else was having problems getting going, but we got up to second in like three laps. We kept pace with the leader, which was pretty cool because he’s quick everywhere he goes.”
Tankersley’s runner-up result marked his first podium of the year and his six positions gained on the track equaled the second-most cars passed.
The team is scheduled to tackle the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour season-opening doubleheader this Friday and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, during the 46th annual ASCS Spring Nationals.
