Hagar Wraps Up Holiday Weekend With Win At Talladega Short Track

Hagar Wraps Up Holiday Weekend With Win At Talladega Short Track

Inside Line Promotions – EASTABOGA, Ala. (Sept. 4, 2019) – Derek Hagar captured a trio of top-five finishes last weekend, capping it with a feature victory.

Hagar started off the long Labor Day Weekend with a Mid-South Sprint Car Association 305ci sprint car race at Crowley’s Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark, on Friday. The win was almost in his grasp, but slipped away at the last second.

“I was driving for Cody and Allison Hayes in their sprint car,” he said. “We started second and ran second during our heat race. We lined up fifth in the feature and took the lead on Lap 4.”

Hagar led most of the race, but when a late-race caution came out his tires started to go away. Once the race resumed, Hagar got passed and ended up finishing fourth.

“It was disappointing,” he said. “I was really hoping to get them their first win. It was looking promising, but it just didn’t work out in our favor.”

Hagar competed at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., on Saturday with the MSCA Series. He started fifth in his heat race and finished third. That lined him up eighth in the feature and he was able to make his way to third.

“Our car was pretty good,” he said. “We might’ve been better if we were able to start closer to the front, but overall we were happy with how that night went.”

Hagar returned to his 360ci winged sprint car on Sunday with the USCS Series at Talladega Short Track. He lined up fourth in the heat race and made it up to second, which started him sixth in the feature.

“It was a 30-lap race and I was able to make my way up to second when a caution came out with four laps to go,” he said. “The leader was way out ahead of us so there was no way I would’ve caught her if it had stayed green. When the race restarted, she went to protect the bottom and I was able to drive around her in the middle. We led the rest of the race and got the win.”

It marked his seventh feature victory of the season.

Hagar will return to Riverside International Speedway this Saturday for the Fall Nationals.
