Inside Line Promotions – CHATHAM, La. (March 11, 2020) – Old School Racing driver Channin Tankersley showed speed during his season debut last weekend when he visited Chatham Speedway for a USCS Series doubleheader.
“Thursday night we decided to go,” he said. “We went to shake the car down and it was okay. We were pretty happy. As any race you go there and are trying different things. We learned a little bit. The biggest thing was to get me back acclimated since I haven’t raced a whole lot recently.”
Tankersley finished where he started – fourth – in a heat race on Friday before advancing two positions in the A Main for a ninth-place outing.
“We were running fourth or fifth,” he said. “We were coming at the end, but someone right reared me and it messed me up. It was a racing thing. I jumped the cushion and they went to sliding me and got into my front end. It messed up the nose wing and knocked the front end out of square. It hindered me enough to slow the car down.”
Tankersley showed improvement on Saturday when he powered from fifth to second place in a heat race before closing the weekend with a fourth-place finish in the main event.
The team is scheduled to join the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink during a pair of races this weekend. The action begins on Friday at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas, before shifting to LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas, on Saturday for the East Texas Lone Star Shootout.
Tankersley has numerous top fives at both tracks in 360ci winged sprint car competition, including a win at Cotton Bowl Speedway.
“We’ve had a lot of top fives at Cotton Bowl,” he said. “It’s like a smaller 3/8 mile. It’s pretty flat. It’s like a small Williams Grove with long straightaways and sharper, flatter corners. We’ve run up in the top five pretty good at LoneStar, too.
“We’re hoping to get the races in because of the way the weather looks. If we can race our goal is to continue to progress throughout each night.”
